Alcohol Misuse

Consuming too much alcohol can be harmful to your health. Well can help you identify if your drinking is becoming a problem and offer advice on how to cut down.

How much alcohol is safe?

The NHS recommends men and women drink no more than 14 units per week - and not all in one go! It’s suggested that women have a maximum of 2-3 units per day, and men have 3-4 units. If you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, it’s recommended that you don’t drink any alcohol.

A half-pint of low-average strength beer or cider contains about 1 unit of alcohol, as does a single shot of 40% strength spirit. The NHS has more information on calculating alcohol units.
